A free in-home window treatment consultation is a visit, not a sales pitch. Sheila comes to your house, looks at your windows in your own light, measures them, and talks through what would suit each room. Here is what the visit looks like from your side.

The Short Version
  • Sheila comes to you. There is no showroom to visit and no obligation to buy.
  • You do not need to know what you want. Knowing which rooms bother you is enough.
  • She measures every window herself, because custom orders are made to those numbers.
  • You talk about light, privacy, kids, pets and how you use each room before anyone picks a product.
  • You leave knowing your options and the next step, with nothing to sign that day.

Before the Visit: What to Have Ready

Very little. Make sure Sheila can get to the windows, which mostly means moving a chair or a plant off a sill. If a window is behind a big piece of furniture, mention it when you book.

It helps to know which rooms you want to start with and what bothers you about them. Maybe the west glass heats up the sofa at four in the afternoon. Maybe the street can see straight into the bedroom. Those complaints tell Sheila more than a Pinterest board does.

If your home is in an HOA, find out whether it has rules about what the street sees. Our post on HOA window covering rules explains what usually matters. Photos of rooms or colours you like are welcome, but nobody expects them.

What Happens When She Arrives

The visit starts with a walk through the rooms you want covered. Sheila looks at the windows the way you live with them: which way they face, how hard the sun hits, what you see outside and who can see in.

She will ask a handful of plain questions:

The cord question matters. Cordless and motorized options exist across the product lines, and if small children live in the house, that changes what she suggests.

Measuring Your Windows

This is the part that cannot be done any other way. Every product we sell is made to the size of one particular window, and custom orders are not returnable. So Sheila measures each opening herself. She notes how deep it is, whether the frame is square and what sits near it, such as a handle, a crank or a vent.

Measuring it yourself and getting close is the most common way a custom order goes wrong. We go through the reasons in how windows are measured for blinds and shades. You do not have to do any of it. That is the point of the visit.

Talking Through Your Options

Once she has seen the rooms, Sheila walks you through what fits. She can show you samples, so you are judging fabric and finish against your own walls and your own light. A good consultation sounds different from a catalogue. Sometimes the honest answer is blinds for a laundry room and shutters for the living room. Sometimes it is shades everywhere.

You will hear how each choice behaves in North Texas afternoon sun, how it is cleaned, and what the trade-offs are. If you are weighing the whole house against one room at a time, our post on ordering room by room or all at once covers it.

Quotes, Timing and What Comes Next

Pricing depends on the product, the size, the material and how many windows are involved, so a number only means something once the windows are measured. You get a written quote for the rooms you chose. Our post on what a window treatment quote should include lists what to look for in any quote you receive.

Timing depends on the product. Blinds and shades are typically 2 to 3 weeks from order to installation. Plantation shutters are typically 6 to 8 weeks, and some manufacturers run to 12 in a busy season. Drapery varies too much to give a single range. The exact timeline is confirmed the day you place an order.

You do not have to decide on the spot. Take the quote home, look at it in your own time, and call or text if you have questions. If you go ahead, the order is made to measure and installed by trained installers.
